Casa Caliu is a detached single-family home located next to Pujol Mountain. Designed to strict PassiveHaus standards, this home perfectly combines energy efficiency, sustainability, and well-being, maximizing energy demand reduction without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics.
With a compact footprint of 208 m², Casa Caliu accommodates a family of four in an optimized and functional space that includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room, and a spacious living area equipped with an open kitchen and laundry area. Optimizing the space and floor area was one of the project’s key priorities, ensuring the highest demands were met in the smallest possible space.
The design of Casa Caliu is characterized by a contemporary volume with a Mediterranean essence, which blends harmoniously with the surroundings and adapts to the steep slope of the site. The interior design, designed by Dröm Living , reflects a warm and fresh aesthetic, with rustic details that evoke the natural character of the place .
Sustainability is a central focus of the project, with a careful selection of low-environmental-impact materials. The structure was built with a lightweight frame system and rock wool insulation, while the facades were constructed with an ETICS system, using the same insulation combined with a lime mortar coating sourced from local suppliers. The ground floor flooring is troweled cement, which forms part of the insulated foundation slab, eliminating overlapping and unnecessary materials. On the upper floor, the flooring is natural oak parquet with eco-friendly varnishes. Furthermore, the interior walls are clad with breathable lime mortar, which not only improves indoor air quality but also acts as a natural disinfectant.
The technology used in Casa Caliu reinforces its commitment to sustainability. The enclosures are equipped with triple-glazed windows with solar control, providing excellent thermal insulation. Two air-to-water heat pumps have been installed to produce domestic hot water, while the home is ventilated using a dual-flow heat recovery system, which keeps the air fresh and clean without heat loss. Regarding air conditioning, the home is designed to regulate its temperature naturally for most of the year. In addition, an air conditioning system has been installed to provide additional heat during the coldest days.
Casa Caliu is the result of a comprehensive approach that prioritizes sustainability and comfort, demonstrating that it is possible to create a home that meets the highest energy efficiency standards without sacrificing design or functionality. Every element has been carefully designed to ensure the well-being of its inhabitants and respect for the natural environment, making it a unique home where innovation and tradition go hand in hand.
